Viva Miches by Wyndham

Viva Miches by Wyndham, which opened in December 2024, is Viva's newest resort: a 24-hour all-inclusive on Playa Esmeralda in Miches, on the Dominican Republic's less developed north-east coast, about 100 km (roughly 1 h 30 by road) from Punta Cana airport (PUJ). Its 535 rooms range from Comfort and Superior to Ocean View and Oceanfront, and the Splash categories have private plunge pools. There are five restaurants (El Lago buffet, Latin Fusion, Fusion Oriental, Atlantis for seafood and Mediterraneo), oceanfront bars, an infinity pool with swim-up bar, a kids' club, daily activities and nightly shows. Excursions include Montaña Redonda, Los Haitises and the Yanigua waterfall.

  • New product: opened in December 2024, it is the newest of Viva's nine resorts, so rooms and public areas are recent.
  • Plunge pools at all-inclusive prices: the Splash categories, including Splash Oceanfront, have a private plunge pool.
  • Away from the crowds: Miches is a quiet, little-developed stretch of coast, yet reachable from Punta Cana airport, which has nonstop flights from São Paulo.
  • Nature on the doorstep: Montaña Redonda's swings, Los Haitises National Park, La Jalda waterfall and the Redonda and Limón lagoons are all nearby.
  • Families: rooms for up to four, connecting rooms, cribs on request and a supervised kids' club.
  • Board: 24-hour all-inclusive.
  • Rooms: 535: Comfort (resort view), Superior (garden view), Ocean View, Superior Splash and Splash Ocean View (private plunge pool), Splash Oceanfront (plunge pool and daybed) and Oceanfront (daybed); one king or two queen beds; connecting and accessible rooms; cribs on request.
  • Restaurants and bars: El Lago (buffet); à la carte Latin Fusion, Fusion Oriental (with a sushi counter), Atlantis (seafood) and Mediterraneo; oceanfront bars.
  • Pools and spa: infinity pool with swim-up bar; spa at extra cost.
  • Kids' club: supervised kids' club with crafts, games and themed parties (Viva's Vivito's Club is for ages 4 to 12).
  • Romance: proposal, vow-renewal, anniversary and honeymoon packages; Viva wedding packages for 2, 10 or 40 guests.
  • Setting: on Playa Esmeralda, a long beach east of Miches town in El Seibo province; Viva calls the resort off the beaten path.
  • Activities: padel (extra cost), flying trapeze, climbing wall, tennis, basketball, football, archery, beach volleyball, billiards, table tennis, gym, TRX, yoga, water polo, water aerobics, catamaran and windsurfing lessons, kayaks and snorkelling.
  • Excursions: Montaña Redonda (panoramic views, sky swings and hammocks), Los Haitises National Park with the Yanigua waterfall, horseback riding on Esmeralda Beach, La Jalda waterfall hike and eco-boat trips on the Redonda and Limón lagoons.
  • Room features: air conditioning, fridge with welcome package and safe; balcony or terrace in most rooms.
  • Sustainability: the resort follows the Wyndham Green programme (waste reduction, solar power) and sponsors Protortuga, a sea-turtle protection group.
  • Entry: no visa needed for Brazilians on holiday. Under an exceptional measure valid until 31 December 2026, Brazilians may enter with a valid passport (no six-month minimum); for travel from January 2027, check whether it has been extended or plan on six months' validity. Stays over 30 days pay an extra fee on departure.
  • e-Ticket: free, mandatory online immigration and customs form (eticket.migracion.gob.do) for arrival and for departure; it must be completed before airline check-in.
  • Yellow fever: travellers aged 1 year or older arriving from São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais or Espírito Santo (including transits of more than 12 hours there) must show the International Certificate of Vaccination (CIVP), with the vaccine taken at least 10 days before arrival. This covers passengers on the São Paulo–Punta Cana nonstop.
  • Time: 1 hour behind Brasília all year.
  • Currency: Dominican peso (DOP). US dollars and euros are easy to exchange, and ATMs accept foreign cards.
  • Power: 110 V / 60 Hz, US-style A/B sockets; Brazilian plugs need an adapter.
  • Language: Spanish; English is widely spoken in tourist areas.
  • Departure tax: US$20, included in the airfare.
  • Weather: hurricane season runs from 1 June to 30 November, most active in September.
  • Minors: Viva accepts guests under 18 travelling without their parents only with a release form signed by both parents or guardians and copies of their ID documents.
  • Arrival airport: Punta Cana International (PUJ), about 100 km away, roughly 1 h 30 by road. Santo Domingo Las Américas (SDQ) is about 130 km, a little over 2 hours.
  • Nonstop from São Paulo: São Paulo (GRU)–Punta Cana (PUJ), about 7 hours, is in airline schedules through 2027 (Arajet among the carriers); carriers and frequencies change by season, so check when quoting.
  • One-stop options: Copa from São Paulo (GRU), Rio de Janeiro (GIG), Brasília, Belo Horizonte, Salvador, Porto Alegre, Florianópolis or Manaus via Panama City to Punta Cana or Santo Domingo; Avianca or Arajet via Bogotá; LATAM to Lima, then Arajet to Punta Cana.
  • From the Northeast: Salvador has Copa flights to Panama City. From Recife, Fortaleza and Natal there are no nonstops to the Dominican Republic or Panama: connect through São Paulo (for the Punta Cana nonstop) or another hub.
  • Connections in the USA: routings via Miami need a valid US visa, even for an airside connection.
